JL Boise, ID, partners with the Salvation Army to create the Booth Memorial Home for unwed mothers.

JL Charlotte, NC, establishes the Medical Social Service Department at Memorial Hospital.

JL St. Petersburg, FL, helps create the Children’s Service Bureau to aid dependent, neglected, and justice system-involved children.

JL Akron, OH, establishes the Child Guidance Center (now Child Guidance & Family Solutions).

JL Duluth, MN, forms the Duluth Mental Hygiene Clinic to provide mental health support for children. The organization still exists, now known as the Human Development Center.

JL Rhode Island donates funds to establish a Young People’s Theater.

JL St. Joseph, MO, starts the Family and Children’s Bureau, which is now known as Family Guidance.

JL Miami, FL, founds the Children’s Service Bureau of Dade County, Inc., which assisted in foster placement for children. The program would go on to assist Cuban children during Operation Pedro Pan when many parents, fearing the Communist regime in Cuba, sent their children to Miami.
