Leyla Zeidan Safa

Leyla Zeidan Safa joined the Junior League of El Paso in 2011 as a returning expat from Scotland and Dubai, looking to educate herself on the most pressing issues affecting her hometown. A new mother to a daughter with twins on the way, Leyla found the lack of resources for families discouraging. During this time, Leyla immersed herself in the League.

Using the Junior League’s training resources, Leyla learned how to create and manage a non-profit organization. In 2017, she co-founded Moms on Board, a family advocacy group in El Paso dedicated to the community’s betterment. She has demonstrated that by accumulating knowledge, you can incite change and find enduring life purpose. Her volunteer goals are to educate and empower others to create social reform momentum.

Leyla comes from a diverse background and was raised in a community that celebrates that diversity. Leyla is a multilingual Lebanese-Mexican-American Muslim with ties on the U.S.-Mexico border stretching from El Paso to McAllen, Texas to Lebanon in the Middle East.

Leyla was recognized for the 2017-2018 Julia Gilbert Award for her service to the El Paso Community and served as the Junior League of El Paso President for 2020-2021. Leyla demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to the League, the El Paso community, and family advocacy at the local and state levels. As an agent of change, Leyla’s most significant contribution to her community has been to open the communal conversation around social reform.
