Ada O’Quain
Ada O’Quain may be a Provisional Member of the Junior League of Lake Charles, but she has long embodied everything The Junior League strives to be. A mother of three, wife, full-time employee, volunteer, and community leader, O’Quain works to leave a community-centered legacy. She both puts her mark on community projects through collaboration with community members and is raising strong, resilient, community-minded children.
“I am showing my family, friends, and other community members that in order for you to succeed you have to help others as well,” she says.
While O’Quain has a big job as the Development Officer for the Foundation at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital—planning the foundation’s major fundraising events, employee and physician giving campaigns, facilitating donor relations, and more—she joined her League because she wanted to be more actively involved in volunteer efforts in her community. As a Provisional Member, one of her favorite projects has been putting together snack bags for children who are food insecure.
“To know that I am making sure that those children are fed and taken care of means the world to me,” she says. “We are showing that even our small actions can have a huge impact on children’s lives.”
Volunteering is a long-standing tradition and commitment in O’Quain’s family—her mother and grandmother were both members of The Junior League. In the coming months and years, she looks forward to seeing what opportunities unfold for her to be of service to her League and community. In the meantime, O’Quain never ceases to share her enthusiasm for The Junior League.
“I love it when people ask me what we do as Members of the Junior League,” she says. “It is such a blessing to be able to talk about all the wonderful programs that we have to benefit children and women in our Southwest Louisiana community.”
