JL Oranges and Short Hills, NJ, initiates a recycling program and establishes the Emergency Committee in response to war service demands.

JL Portland, OR, establishes a sewing room for jobless women to teach them employable skills.
JL Milwaukee, WI, founds the Curative Workshop (now Curative Care Network) for restoration therapy. In its first year of operation, Curative provided 240 treatments to 28 pediatric patients. Today, they serve thousands of clients every year.
