2023: JLC’s Speaker Series

For the past four years, The Junior League of Columbus, OH (JLC) has worked to enhance its efforts towards The Junior League’s overall commitment to DEIB. The JLC has continued to build upon its action in the DEIB space year over year. However, the JLC’s Speaker Series truly sets its DEIB programming apart from the rest.

The speaker series began in May 2022 when JLC completed a series of events in partnership with Black Girl Rising, Inc., which ensures all African American girls live lives of authenticity, equality, and resiliency. Women from across Central Ohio were invited to discuss what could be done about the premature deaths of Black girls in Columbus, and they decided that inundating girls with Love Letters would be a way to convey to them: “We see you, we love you, and we are here for you.” Submitted letters were compiled into a book, and at these events, some of which were hosted by the JLC at the Kelton House Museum and Garden, local women leaders, including a former State Senator, read some of the submitted letters, and girls received a free copy of the book.
