Sustainer Connection Award —This award recognizes a League—or Leagues—that has demonstrated significant success in engaging Sustaining Members. Strong applications will highlight how the League integrates Sustainers into its strategic priorities, reflects the value of their contributions, and demonstrates how purposeful and meaningful engagement of Sustainers strengthens the Mission of the Junior League.
The Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach, VA used the milestone of their Centennial year to do something deeply meaningful – to reach back and bring their Sustainer community home. JLNVB mad reconnection a priority and launched a Sustainer Soiree that drew more than 45 Sustainers back through the doors, reintroduced them to the League’s current work, and debuted their Legacy of Leadership Fund, which raised more than $58,000 to support member leadership training throughout the centennial year. They waived reinstatement fees, personally reached out to Members over the age of 80, and created intentional pathways back into the life of the League. Nearly 50 Sustainers not only reinstated, but became more engaged in the League through volunteering, mentorship, and hosting League gatherings.

The Junior League of Charleston, SC’s Fast Track Sustainer Program was born from a simple but powerful insight: women over 40 who are eager to join the Junior League often want more than membership – they want connection with peers who share their life stage. Fast Track members join as a dedicated cohort, moving through orientation and training together, building friendships alongside their League knowledge. They’re welcomed to Sustainer social events and Active Member events, giving them the best of both worlds for two full years before transitioning to full Sustainer status. In just three years, more than 30 women have taken advantage of this special opportunity.

The Junior League of Austin, TX Sustainer Engagement Committee takes a holistic approachon programs designed to promote Sustainer leadership development, foster community and member engagement, and strengthen social connections. Actives serve on the Sustainer Engagement Committee, working alongside Sustainers to plan events and run programs for Sustaining members. The SEC organizes non-profit board training made available to all JLA members. The SEC Nonprofit Board Matching Program works directly with local nonprofits throughout the Austin area. Members who attend the event connect directly with representatives from the non-profit organizations that are actively recruiting for board members. They facilitate monthly social initiatives, volunteer opportunities, and gathering groups, allowing Sustainers to foster meaningful connections. Sustainers are also invited to volunteer in shifts alongside Provisionals and Actives for JLA's signature impact programs and serve as advisors to JLA committees, bringing their perspective throughout the organization. By providing opportunities for leadership development, social connections, and creating a supportive environment, the League is empowering Sustainers to make a meaningful lasting impact in Austin while creating lifelong affinity within the organization.
The Junior League of Sarasota, FL’s sustainer program exhibits their commitment to encouraging a lifelong connection to the Junior League through volunteerism, leadership, mentorship, and fundraising. Sustainers remain deeply engaged in community initiatives as well as holding bi-yearly Sustainer Membership Meetings. Their 21 active Interest Groups further support professional development, networking, and social engagement among members. Sustainers also play a pivotal role in fundraising, with their annual Legacy Luncheon raising $56,000 for the JLS Endowment Fund. Additionally, they provide critical volunteer support for major JLS events like the Tour of Homes. Beyond internal League efforts, Sustainers make a tangible community impact, with over 100 members volunteering for seven local organizations last year. Their commitment to joint projects with Active members, including Find the Good Day, fosters a stronger connection and reinforces a united League. By continuing their commitment to volunteerism, leadership, and community impact, Sustainers embody and extend The Junior League Mission, ensuring that the League's values endure and evolve with time.
