A strategic leader, advocate, and community builder, Marcella Herrera has been a dedicated member of the Junior League of The Woodlands (JLTW) since 2017, where she has championed diversity, program development, and mentorship initiatives. In her most recent role as Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Chair on the 2023-2024 Board of Directors, she led efforts to create a culture of belonging, implementing open forums for courageous conversations and expanding the League’s mentorship program to help women reach their full potential.
Her leadership extends to community research and program development, where she has played a vital role in evaluating and creating impactful League programs. As a nominating committee member, she has helped shape the future leadership of JLTW, ensuring strong governance and continuity in the League’s mission.
Marcella’s dedication to advancing equity and strategic program management is reflected in her professional career as Program Manager of Canopy Cancer Survivorship Center at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center. Under her leadership, Canopy has doubled its impact, now serving over 1,000 guest encounters per month. She oversees operations, strategic growth, and community engagement, managing 55+ volunteers and staff while working with hospital leadership, advisory councils, and community partners to expand outreach and education.
Her career is deeply rooted in supporting vulnerable populations, including her service as a regional representative on the Human Trafficking Taskforce, where she worked with the Governor’s Office to develop protocols for sexually exploited youth in Montgomery County. She has also contributed to statewide staff training for the Department of Family and Protective Services, earning the 2015 Award of Excellence for her work serving foster children.
Marcella is an active community leader, currently serving on the Board of Directors for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), ensuring advocacy for children in foster care. She is also a member of In the Pink of Health, raising funds for breast and ovarian cancer support, and Partners in Caring, an organization focused on enhancing workplace culture in healthcare settings.
Her commitment to leadership and service has been recognized with the 2024 AJLI Top 40 Under 40 Award, highlighting her impact within the Junior League and beyond. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Nonprofit Management at the University of Houston-Downtown.
Marcella firmly believes that true community impact comes from intentional service, strategic leadership, and fostering meaningful connections. She is passionate about developing programs that inspire action, elevate voices, and drive sustainable change—ensuring that her work leaves a legacy of empowerment and inclusion.
